A lesson learned…
Something that has really been bothering me lately is the fact that many people do good deeds because they expect something back. For example: they give a gift because they want something in return, they do a favor for a friend so they can ask that friend for a favor later or they perform a random act of kindness so they can preach it to the world.
When you give, you shouldn’t expect to receive. The simple fact that you did a good deed should be all the recognition and praise you need. When the underlying motive to your giving is receive something in return, it completely washes away any merit the deed had in the first place.
I guess what I’m trying to say is: do a good deed because you want to out of the goodness of your heart. Don’t expect something in return and don’t expect praise.
